The Wayne Theatre on West Main Street opened on January 18, 1926, The Star Theatre could not compete with the Wayne and went out of business soon after the Wayne opened. The Wayne was the most long-lived of the Waynesboro theaters, surviving for 73 years until it closed its doors in 1999. Although it was a "silent" theater when built, it converted to show sound films after a few years of operation. |
