Description |
Photo of Pleasant Green Farm which later became Springdale Farm and later on, Brunswick Inn. The Brunswick Hotel opened on Wayne Avenue in 1891. The main building was surrounded by smaller summer cottages, a dance pavilion, recreation pavilion with bowling alley and swimming pool, stables, lithia spring houses and service buildings. The hotel thrived until struck by the financial panic of 1893; by 1895 it was bankrupt. Over the next several years, the hotel changed hands until it was purchased by local businessman William J. Loth in 1899, who kept it open only during the summers. After Loth's death in 1904, the hotel business began to decline. Due to the increased popularity of the automobile, people no longer spent their entire summers at one resort. The Brunswick Inn closed its doors for the last time on September 1, 1930, and was razed in 1938. |
