Description |
6.25"w x 8.5"h tintype photographic portrait of woman. She is shown from the waist up holding a book and a small box. The photographic emulsion has been taken away from the background of the image leaving the tin. The image of the woman has hand tinted details added over the photograph. The tintype was found with a similar portrait of a man wrapped in tissue paper in "an old desk in Waynesboro" by the donor. Handwritten in pencil on one side of the tissue wrapping is: "Tin Plates Residents of old Teasville, Va.," and on another section of the tissue is written in the same hand and pencil: "Aunt + Uncle of a Mr Poole." Painted across the bottom in the same pigment as the hand tinted details is: "N.S. 36/0/8" or "N.S. 361018" and an illegible letter, perhaps a "K" |
