Description |
Image of Mrs. Rupert S. Lewis (cashier) selling a ticket to a little boy. The boy is seen from the back. Above the window are two clocks, one at 12:45 and the other at 3:15. Next to one clock it reads "Adults 25 cents" and next to the other it reads "Children 12 cents" There is part of a movie poster visible to the right of the window that reads in part "Wayne....Joan Crawford John Garfield Humoresque." The Wayne Theatre on West Main Street opened on January 18, 1926, The Star Theatre could not compete with the Wayne and went out of business soon after the Wayne opened. The Wayne was the most long-lived of the Waynesboro theaters, surviving for 73 years until it closed its doors in 1999. Although it was a "silent" theater when built, it converted to show sound films after a few years of operation. |
